The soundtrack to the near-apocalypse world that we live in is being composed in real-time by a musical maniac: joe DOE.
The creator of the hybrid genre called sykophunk, DOE knows that for crazy times like these, you need crazy music, and lots of it. Through numerous projects in various genres, he averages 100 songs per year, leaving a trail of full-lengths, EPs, digital mixtapes, licensing catalogs, collabs and remixes in the pursuit of his addiction. Recording and touring have taken him across the U.S. Side projects have affiliated him with artists across the globe. He has opened up for Apathy, been placed on mixtapes with members of the Wu Tang Clan and done remixes for MC Lars featuring KRS-One and Sage Francis. Through his different aliases, he’s gotten song placement on The Colbert Report and composed for video games and films. Yet, despite all of these amazing accomplishments, the majority of the world still asks:

“Who the hell is joe DOE?!”

These are crazy times indeed. When an artist works this hard and still remains underground, he‘s either doing something very wrong or he‘s doing everything right. That’s a matter of perspective. But the facts cannot be denied: joe DOE represents the rEvolution Underground. He makes the music that he wants to make, keeping 100% creative control and ownership of his art, experimenting with different styles and sounds without any corporate desk huggers to answer to. It would be a benefit to all of humanity if record labels were interested in backing artists with such strong principles and promoting music with such universal messages. But we live in the real world, a surreal cycle of consumption in which even art and entertainment has been watered down to a numbers game. We live in crazy times.

DOE is currently working on a mixtape and the final yet first chapter of the Democalypse trilogy, composing for two video games and a movie, and more material for his group Triple Vision and for his licensing catalogs. So if you don’t like something in this vast array of audio realness, or at least have the utmost respect for such a dedicated and passionate artist, maybe you’re the one that’s crazy.
