Throughout her career, the versatile D’Layna has worked in an exciting array of unique musical settings, from co-producing and doing sound development for the Latin female group Picture Perfect to being a singer on Hammer’s hugely successful 1992 “Too Legit to Quit” tour. She’s also been involved in projects with Grammy award-winning producer Michael Narada Walden (producer of Whitney Houston, Patti Austin, Aretha Franklin et al), Carl Wheeler (of the multi-platinum recording group Tony Toni Tone), Louis Biancanello (producer of Jessica Simpson, Aretha Franklin and many more), Felton Pilate (of Confunction and Andy Norell), Sista Monica, Santana vocalist Tony Lindsay and many more. D’Layna is also proud to be the first Latina to receive an award from “Sistuh to Sistuh”, a Bay Area women's music organization, in recognition of her musical activities and vocal gift.
Before turning her creativity to dance music, D’Layna toured for six years with gospel singer Lynette Hawkins-Stephens, aka “Little Sis” of the legendary Hawkins Family. From this experience, she learned how to integrate faith and music from Walter, Tramaine and Edwin Hawkins of the influential Love Center Choir. This powerful musical-spiritual foundation has been a driving force in her dance career as well.
“If you listen to my music, you know there’s a universal-spiritual connection, and that’s what I’m all about—putting out a positive, motivating message in my music that gives people hope,” she says. “I’m always going to be writing the way I do, with a positive tip or spiritual message whether it’s underlying or in your face,” she says. “But that’s why I sing, to have an impact in people’s lives. While passing through this life, I want to leave something substantial behind. When fans tell me how much hearing my voice and the messages of the songs lifts their spirits and motivates them, it inspires me to continue on with my music. Speaking to people’s hearts is the most important aspect of why I make music and sing. ”
