When DJ Head Honcho declares "I'm a fighter," you can take him at his word.
Born Nicholas Sorel in Pawtucket, RI, Honcho spent the first three months of his life in an incubator after being delivered with severe jaundice, which required a complete blood transfusion. Growing up, he was obsessed with collecting sneakers and hip-hop music. As the boxes of sneakers were piling high, his other love offered something that could turn into a career. By the age of 13 he had his own DJ setup. A year later he was working his first club gig, and by the time he was old enough to drive he had already released his first mixtape and spun a set on radio. Jump ahead a decade to 2006 and Honcho was spinning his party-starting mix of hip-hop, R&B, reggaeton, and mash-ups on AOL Radio's Mixtape station. He can also be heard spinning on many of Rhode Island's local radio stations, and has done production work for Def Jam's da Ranjahz, Scott Storch protégé Hawk, and many others. The underground was paying attention when he hosted rapper OnCue's hit 2006 mixtape Listen to My Damn Demo with his longtime friend DJ EFN. ~ David Jeffries
