DJ Espee, born in southern New Jersey, just about 30 minutes from Philadelphia, with music in his blood from his Puerto Rican family background of musicians throughout Puerto Rico and New York, Queens and Bronx areas.
He started spinning on the tables in September of 1998, but has been remixing songs YEARS before that, maybe circa 1992.
He started just like any other DJ, went from his house then took his talent to the road to DJ at house parties and community events, at the same time creating the original "mixed tape" using a blank cassette, hitting record, and creating his first mixtapes.
This incredibly respected mixtape DJ, both from signed to unsigned artists from all over the world, has worked with some of the best, networking with many important people. Giving credit and thanks to DJ Skee and Johnny "Hooks", he was taken in as a promotion DJ for The Game's record label, The Black Wall Street and Nu Jerzey Devil's label LiveliHood Entertainment in March of 2006. At the same time, he started DJing at WMSC 90.3FM for JUST Radio with Justina Valentine in northern New Jersey's college, Montclair State University. A couple months later, DJ Espee was given the opportunity to start "LiveliHood Radio" to promote music coming from Black Wall Street and Livelihood, which lasted a strong 4-5 months. It didnt continue due to Espee relocating to Los Angeles, California in September of 06.
After relocating, he networked with many well known west coast talents such as DJ Quik, Jay Rock, and Roccett to name a few, and became closer to the Black Wall Street artists of the west coast. As well as working with his first rap artist, Mr Dont Know AKA MDK, releasing several mixtapes such as "Live From Iraq".
In January of 2008, DJ Espee was offered to join The Real DJs, a DJ organization started in Texas by CEO Damian Holman and represented by south artists such as Tum Tum, Candi Redd, Paul Wall and many more. In April of 08, Espee was named "The Real DJs DJ Of The Month" and he was also a featured DJ in the Ozone Magazine DJ Issue a month later which was sold in stores nationwide. During the year, he released "Unstoppable" hosted by Roccett, "UnderCrowned Hustla Part 3" hosted by Metafore and Candi Redd, and "E.Espee.N The Second Quarter" hosted by Black Wall Street's artist Juice, which all had high numbers of downloads.
In 2009, DJ Espee focused on releasing more mixtapes with independent artists. He released "Google Me" collaborating with his artist Metafore and dropped many others, as well as becoming a weekly mixshow DJ on Ramos Radio. Early 2010, he released "UnderCrowned Hustla Part 4" hosted by Rampage of Flipmode Squad.
Things started picking up in 2011 when he became a DJ officially signed under Wu-Tang management's "Wu Worldwide DJ Coalition" aka "Wu-Tang DJs". Shortly after, Espee relocated back to New Jersey to start his own legal online radio station "Popular Rhythms" and release the first mixtape to start a new series with Wu-Tang management "We Got Next".
Towards the end of 2012, Espee joined the new social network Pheed, which had a huge growth in numbers of new users. Pheed support decided to verify and feature him on the social network due to the amount of promotion and support he put into the company. Not only he became a favorite DJ to "subscribe" to on the network, he also released a mixtape (Pheed The Streets) to aim towards promoting Pheed and it's urban artists that also has a "channel".
To this day, Espee continues to work on mixtapes, focusing on his entertainment company, Espee Music Group. Keep an eye out, more moves are being made as the saga continues...
