Traditional schlager-pop trio De Romeo's formed in the early 2000s when Chris Van Tongelen and Davy Gilles, who had appeared together in the musical Romeo en Julia, Van Haat Tot Liefde, teamed up with Familie soap actor Gunther Levi.
After performing in front of Angela Merkel at the 2005 Bundespresseball, they became one of the most popular Flemish party acts, scoring five Top 40 albums, hit duets with Belgian diva Laura Lynn ("Naar de Kermis!") and Dutch vocalist Jan Smit ("Zingen Lachen Dansen"), and a Top 40 cover version of Tony Christie's "Is This the Way to Amarillo." ~ Jon O'Brien
