DAVID HOSKING
"Troubadour David Hosking...he does things his way. No lofty ambition, just honest toil for his craft ...has a nose for witty poetry that he beautifully transforms into song... Hosking’s warm vocal doesn’t want for perfection, yet thrives and shakes with passion in each song’s journey as if it’s an old friend. Sunday Herald Sun, May 2010.
Melbourne singer - songwriter - guitarist David Hosking has been stubbornly independent in his outlook and career, ignoring the attentions of record companies in order to articulate precisely his own musical vision without interference.
As a tactic it might be unusual, but it certainly seems to work.
To date he has released seven self-financed albums. He has also built a large and loyal following on the Melbourne pub circuit. His recorded work has been praised by critics in both mainstream and street press, at home and internationally.
“The man writes like Schultz created cartoons; simple, uncluttered life pictures that strike you as nothing but authentic. He is one of the finest songwriting talents I have heard, and I wouldn’t be surprised if you see his career unfold rapidly here in Ireland”Mark Patterson BBC.
He is truly a man of many talents. Inbetween singing, playing guitar and songwritng. Hosking, in true rock and rollstyle, kept body and soul together by working as a wharf carpenter, barman, kitchen hand, crane driver, disability support worker and childcare worker.
In many ways, David Hosking has done ittough. He has his reasons, however. He has his albums out, the respect of hisfans, the critics and his musical peers alike. And he has done it all without ashred of compromise.
And there are precious few other musiciansaround who can claim all that with a clear conscience.
