Daniel Lee may be living on the road these days, but he is never far from his rural roots.
The 26 year old singer and songwriter is from Winder, Ga. Back roads and small town town living may be a distant memory to those who have left them. To Daniel, the blue collar south is the inspiration for every lyric he writes. “I don’t believe in filters when it comes to telling a story. My music is raw, because sometimes life is raw. It means something when you can relate to a song. I believe that everyone has a story to tell, I just hope to be able to tell it well”. Church was the family foundation, but it was the day to day struggle of those around him that made a lasting impact. For Daniel, the need to express what he saw and felt forced him to seek an outlet. Music. Daniel picked up the guitar, taught himself to play and the writing came easily. It wasn’t long before he had formed a small band. Fortunatley, there were some local artists to watch and learn from the next town over. Corey Smith and Brantley Gilbert. Writing with Gilbert and Mike Dekle, Daniel began writing with top charting writers in Nashville. The sound Lee was developing was honest, raw music. A little gritty even when it’s happy. The songs are lyrically rich with stories woven from tales that epitomize rural southern life. Paired with music that has a dirty bite, the combination made the mix very unique. “Different in the coolest way” was the opinion of Shannon Houchins; President of top Nashville Indie Country Label, Average Joe’s Entertainment. Daniel was signed to a limited record deal in 2011 with AJE’s imprint label, Back Roads Records. Lee’s “Backwood’s Tobacco” was released on the popular Mud Digger 3 Compilation CD. The song’s success quickly led to a full record deal with Average Joe’s Entertainment in 2012. Daniel Lee’s, “Headed South” is on the newly released Mud Digger Vol.4. His full CD is currently in production and will be launched in early 2014.
Daniel plays with his band throught the Southeast as both headliner and direct support for National Acts. He recently filmed his video for the song Headed South. Daniel is excited to see where the music is headed. “Meeting people from all over, seeing places much different from where I am from are influencing the sound. It’s getting richer. Even the simple tunes have a lot more complexity. That is from the education you get when you have the opportunity to talk and see so many people who are creative in so many different ways. The storytelling aspect stays the same though. My story, your story, it’s all life. That is what binds us together, we all have a history that we would like share.”
