DAHOMEY
This artist Dahomey also named Michelle Dahomey Rattigan, a loving and outgoing woman of virtue with wisdom and a passion for music. Dahomey was born on the beautiful island of Jamaica and grew up in a home where music was essential. Dahomey developed a passion for music and dance at an early age while being exposed to a variety of music such as; cultural roots reggae, Motown, inspirational music, classical etc.

Dahomey arrived to White Plains, NY at the age of twelve. While growing up in White Plains, She took part in theater. Her love for dance, creativity, and strong leadership skills allowed her to become leader of the Dance Club at White Plains High School. She also joined The Cultural Horizons Gospel Choir and performed at several gospel concerts.

After Graduating high school she pursued a degree in Liberal Arts / Social Science. Due the passion for community outreach she volunteered for the Teen Mothers program in her city, where she counseled teen mothers.

Dahomey decided to leave New York on other business ventures. To further her education she then transferred to Axia University of Phoenix to continue her studies in Psychology. She arrived in Connecticut and accepted a job at The United Way CT / State Childcare Subsidy. She was enjoying one of the best jobs she had, but still had such a passion for theater which took her back to the stage.

In 2006 she got involved with The Cultural Dance Troupe of The West Indies, Hartford, CT specializing in modern, Folk, African, classical and various cultural dances. In 2009 she performed at Bushnell Theater, where she took part in dance drama, as well as vocalist for African drum percussion. With decisions to pursue her singing career Dahomey started as a lead singer in Fresh Reggae Band. While experiencing some disappointing loss she reinvented herself by started her own promotional company and production label, “Empress D. Productions.” She then promoted her own reggae show and titled it “Roots Rock Reggae Explosion.” Dahomey’s career has been taking off since and she is currently working on her soon to be release album “Empowered”. She has been inspired by Bob Marley, Stevie Wonder and endeavor to be the best singer and song writer.

Dahomey has shared the stage with artist such as Yellow Man, Melodians, and CoCo Tea, to name a few. At this present time Dahomey is known to be one of the only female in Reggae music industry to own a Production. She is a producer, promoter, consultant, manager, and entrepreneur. Her perseverance, motivation and drive help her to overcome many challenges. Dahomey is the baby girl who was known to become a strong woman. A woman of much strength, Virtue, talent and filled with much inspiration.
