Laying her clear sweet vocals and eloquently painted words on varied productions, Charli Hunt is an independent artist who has worked across genres as a singer, writer, producer, composer, and visual artist.
She began writing and recording vocals in the early 00's in Chicago, IL, when she collaborated in-studio as a sidewoman alongside international acts, rappers, local artists, DJ's, and musicians. The American performer found her way to the stage via the group aesthetic, confidently moving onward toward the end of the aughts as a solo entity. As a front person, Charli shaped several indie-experimental soundscapes in groups such as a band of Afro-Cuban salsa-tinged rockers, an “acid-jazz collective”, multiple reggae acts, as well as EDM and House music projects.
A succession of festival and society gigs came about while working in a touring band for private and major special events performing jazz classics, standards and popular songs. In short, she has maintained a proven reputation for versatility.
Stepping to the forefront of new music with songs to get the blood and brain flowing, Charli invokes shades of Lauryn Hill, Alicia Keys, Bob Marley, Adele, Steel Pulse, India Arie, Estelle, a dash of Natalie Merchant and more. Her indie release of the tune "Sweet Lovin" (Hogland Records 2009), a song penned by her and a local reggae group, led to the eventual LP entitled "Sweet Loving" (2011) on a fledgling indie imprint. Formerly a collaboration along with the producers of that particular project, they parted ways in late 2010.
"The self-trained vocalist, poet, and writer is earning her stripes as an emerging artist." (Tony Binns, Rolling Out Magazine | Rolling Out.com) An eclectic style all her own speaks to one universal truth; That love is what really makes the world go around. This simple idea, along with her tag-line 'Peace, Love, Unity', seems to be the artist's raison d'être, as she continues to spread a message filled with positivism, through her songs -- a journey through emotion and thought.
