Formed in Berlin, Germany, in 2008, Celan is a sort of experimental rock supergroup and side project formed by members of other bands: Chris Spencer from Unsane; keyboard player Ari Benjamin Meyers from Einstürzende Neubauten; Franz Xaver and Phil Roeder, the rhythm section from flu.
id; and guitarist Niko Wenner from Oxbow. The group announced its existence by posting tracks on its MySpace page. Exile on Mainstream Records released their debut album, Halo, on September 1, 2009, and they launched a three-week tour of Europe later in the month. ~ William Ruhlmann
