Think Pop Will Eat Itself in a blender with M.I.A. and dressed in masks and Celtics uniforms and you've got the wild, gritty rock-rap-ragga of Cantankerous.
The theatrical revolutionaries came together in London in 2003. Their wild live shows soon had the cutting-edge style magazine The Face in their corner and the Toni & Guy publication declaring that they made "So Solid Crew look like Westlife." A year later things blew up big-time when dance diva Lady Bunny introduced her management company, Penetration Inc., to the band. Penetration soon sent MP3s to all the labels they felt might be interested in this revolutionary new group. It took only four minutes for Tommy Boy to respond. Six days later -- a weekend included -- the band was signed to the label. Tommy Boy released their debut, self-titled EP at the end of summer 2005. ~ David Jeffries
