A talented pandeiro player, Bubu was a member of the group of sambistas of the '40s that would become known as the Turma do Muro ("the Gang of the Wall," as they gathered in a daily basis at the wall of the train station of Oswaldo Cruz).
His most successful samba, "Esta Melodia," was recorded originally in 1959 by Jamelão, and re-recorded by Clementina de Jesus (1966), Cristina Buarque (1976), and Marisa Monte (1994). In the '60s, Bubu became a member of the Mensageiros do Samba group. ~ Alvaro Neder
