Originally formed in late 2004 as a way to keep busy and kill the downtime from their other bands, drummer Alex Garcia-Rivera, bassist/vocalist Matt Woods, and guitarist/vocalist Adam Wentworth formed Bloodhorse and began pushing the limits of stoner metal.
When their other obligations came to an end, the trio tossed aside the grind and hardcore punk influence of their former bands the Red Chord and Give Up the Ghost, and decided to pursue the more primal, heavier sound of groups like Hawkwind and Deep Purple. In 2006, the group self-released their demo, Black Lung Rising, drawing the attention of Translation Loss Records. In 2007, the band signed to the label and, shortly afterwards, released their self-titled EP. In 2009, they released Horizoner on Translation Loss. ~ Gregory Heaney
