When vocalist and guitarist Taylor Williams relocated from Salt Lake City, UT to Denver, CO in 2008, he promptly placed a classified ad in search of likeminded musicians on the StonerRock.
com message boards, and so came into contact with guitarist Morgan Carpenter, bassist Austin Michel, and drummer Gordon Koch. Thus was born Black Sleep of Kali, whose moniker was plucked from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and whose music referenced the violent, sludgy post-metal of Mastodon and Baroness, as evidenced by a five-song demo recorded the following year, amid countless local club shows. Word about the group spread quickly and led to a contract with Small Stone Records, and even though Carpenter quit to pursue other musical interests, the remaining trio simply recruited new guitar player Patrick Alberts and returned to Salt Lake City to wrangle together its 2010 debut album, Our Slow Decay. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia
