A South African industrial band that takes a multimedia approach to performance, Battery 9 was assembled by Paul Riekert (vocals), first as Breinskade, under which name a single techno album, Bierbaade, was recorded.
Breinskade members At "Devious" Nel (percussion, sampler) and Huyser Burger (percussion, painting, electric drill) were drafted for Battery 9, with guitarist Arnaud van Vliet making up the quartet. 1995's Protskrog was the first release, via Riekert's One F records, with the second album, Strop, emerging in 1996. The third album, Gris, an enhanced CD featuring radical remixes (and a single new cut) arrived at the end of 1997 from Tic Tac Bang Records. Some copies of the album came with a second enhanced CD, Gris 2. ~ Steven McDonald
