May 1974 we played the very first concert with singer Tineke Schoemaker.

Since than we played many many club-dates, festivals as North Sea Jazz Festival, Blueballs (Switzerland) Crossing Border, Rhythm 'n' Bluesnoght Groningen, Jazzkaar Talinn.

Since than we have the same line-up, so the current line-up is the original.

We recorded about twenty albums.

VintageBlues is a tribute to the music we fell in love with before we startedBarrelhouse in 1974. By playing festivals and many many clubshows we built aexcellent live reputation. Since we recorded albums, we always explored the broad fields of blues. In the songs we wrote, we mixed blues,gospel, folk, country and jazz. We had guest artists as AlbertCollins, Gary Lucas (Captain Beefheart), Altai Hangai from Mongolia andFive Blind Boys from Mississippi. This time we went back “To the years of thosedays when blues started to be original”,. to the more romantic side of theblues. All songs we recorded, were written long before we started Barrelhousein 1974. Songs written and played in small clubs, on the porch, in barrelhouseson an old piano. A few titles: Groundhog Blues (Hooker) I Love The Life I Live(Waters) Midnight Hour Blues (Leroy Carr) God Bless the Child (Billie Holiday).With some songs we did stay close to the original, others we arranged as weshould have done with a song written by one of us.

Werecorded every song live in the studio. This is normal with us, but this timewe arranged with producer Frans Hendriks to play with no headphones. We couldplay as on stage or in a rehearsal room. Playing without headphones is natural,but almost everybody seems to accept playing with headphones in a studio. Wedidn't this time and it pays off.

Barrelhouselive: we appeared six times on the North Sea Jazz Festival, two times on BlueBalls Festival (Switserland), two times on the Peer Blues Festival (Belgium),three times on the Rhythm and Blues Night Groningen (the Netherlands) Jazzkaar,Talinn Estonia, we toured twice with Albert Collins, we played the Moulin BluesFestival etc. We play many club shows.
