balbec was created as a band in March 2002.They made their first self-produced EP, Including Pauses, in December 2002.

In April 2004 balbec released the 7-track album From Mud To Gold.

In 2006, they recorded Behind The Red Curtain, an 11-track album, and in the following spring the 4-track single Manufactured.

In 2009, the 11-track album Rise And Fall Of A Decade was probably their most hit-laden piece of work and received worldwide positive reviews.

In 2013, they released a new 16-track album, Two Sides To Every Story, mastered by Ryan Morey (Arcade Fire).
