One of several UK boy bands to emerge in the mid-90s, Bad Boys Inc.
struggled to emerge from the shadows of the runaways leaders of the genre, Take That and East 17. Producer Ian Levine, who had previously worked with Take That, was instrumental in creating Bad Boys Inc. in spring 1993, with the original line-up comprising David Ross, Matthew James Pateman, Tony Dowding, Ally Begg and Richard Travis. Shortly after the formation, Travis left the group to pursue a solo career leaving the group as a quartet. After signing to A&M Records the band achieved UK singles chart success with songs such as ‘Don’t Talk About Love’ and ‘More To This World’ and performed several times on Top Of The Pops. Their disappointing self-titled album, released in October 1994, peaked at number 13 on the UK album chart. Since the band’s split in 1995, Pateman and Ross have become successful actors, the former playing an appropriate lead role in the West End musical Boyband. He also continued to make music with the electro pop group JEAN. Begg, meanwhile, became a low profile sports television presenter.
