(This story contains spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War and Captain Marvel).
As is typical for The Avengers, the gang’s back together again to save the world — and hopefully, for the sake of Marvel fans everywhere, bring half the planet’s population back from dust.
Hot off the heels of the success of Captain Marvel, the comic-book-fueled movie studio dropped a new full-length trailer for its highly anticipated Avengers: Endgame, which will pick up where we left the heroes after villain Thanos, played by Josh Brolin, eliminated half the world’s population with a single snap.
The new trailer opens with Robert Downey Jr.‘s Tony Stark, AKA Iron Man, reflecting on everything that led up to this point in his life, throwing fans back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first film: 2008’s Iron Man.
“I fought my way out of that cave, became Iron Man, realized I love you,” he says, addressing off-screen fiancée Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow). “I know I said no surprises but I was really hoping to pull off one last one.”

Soon, the survivors — like Jeremy Renner‘s Hawkeye and the quip-wielding Ant-Man, played by Paul Rudd — start to come together, reliving past moments and preparing for future battle.
Agent Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) is heard in a voiceover, saying, “The world has changed. None of us can go back.”
“All we can do is our best, and sometimes the best that we can do is to start over,” she adds before Captain America (Chris Evans) is seen carrying a casket, visibly emotional.

The trailer, shown largely in black and white, transports fans back to Infinity War‘s heartbreaking ending in 2018, when the team lost valuable members like Spider-Man (played by Tom Holland, in a gut-wrenching final scene), Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) and more to dust as a result of Thanos’ Infinity Stone-fueled wrath.
“I keep telling everybody they should move on. Some do. But not us,” a newly beardless Cap proclaims to Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson).
“Even if there’s a small chance, we owe this to everyone who’s not in this room to try,” Black Widow’s voice can be heard saying over the next action-packed scenes — one of which sees Iron Man teaming up with Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), who is no doubt seeking revenge for the perishing of his entire Guardians of the Galaxy team (especially his best friend Groot).

The biggest jaw-dropper of the trailer might be at the very end, when Thor (Chris Hemsworth) seemingly tries to impress a stone-faced Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), who has arrived to help The Avengers after being paged by Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) shortly before the latter turned into dust.
Thor walks right up to the newcomer and summons his hammer without breaking eye contact — a move at which Danvers doesn’t bat an eye.
“I like this one,” he tells the team.
Avengers: Endgame — also starring Karen Gillan, Don Cheadle, Mark Ruffalo, Danai Gurira and more — opens in theaters nationwide on April 26.
