"Black women have always had superpowers," says Mariah Dillard
The latest trailer for Netflix’s Luke Cage has been released, with The Fugees‘ ‘Ready or Not’ soundtracking the new visuals.
The first teaser of the new series was released back in March, showing that Cage is still as powerful as ever – and equally determined to keep the streets of Harlem safe.
The new trailer sees a focus on the female characters in the show, with villain Mariah Dillard telling her new protegée, “you don’t need to be bulletproof to be a superhero. Black women have always had superpowers, turning pain into progress.” Watch the latest Luke Cage trailer below.
The Marvel/Netflix series stars Mike Colter as Cage. The show first debuted on the streaming service in 2016 and told the story of how the former convict first became bestowed with powers of superhuman strength and unbreakable skin.
Upon its release in 2016, Netflix went down for several hours as fans flocked to the service to binge-watch its latest Marvel series.
Colter previously spoke of his hopes for the second season, saying that he expects the show will explore the freedoms received by Cage at the end of the first season.
“So what I want to explore, and what’s going to be really interesting for the second season, is seeing how he handles these newfound freedoms,” he said.
“What does it open up for him? How does his life change from now on moving forward? And what is it like to sort of be a person that when you walk down the street, everybody knows who he is?”
Luke Cage Season Two lands on Netflix on June 22.
