Lakeith Stanfield has become a familiar face over the past couple of years, thanks to his memorable appearances in Atlanta and Get Out. The actor’s visage seems destined to become more recognizable still when Netflix premieres director Adam Wingard’s horror-thriller Death Note on Aug. 25, even if we don’t see too much of Stanfield’s face in a just-released poster showing his character, the mysterious detective, “L.”
Based on Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata’s manga, Death Note follows a high school student who comes across a supernatural notebook capable of killing people whose names are written on its pages. Intoxicated with his new godlike abilities, the young man begins to kill those he deems unworthy of life.
Death Note costars Nat Wolff, Margaret Qualley, Paul Nakauchi, Shea Whigham, and Willem Dafoe, who voices the demonic character Ryuk.
