We loved every minute of it.
From Beyoncé’s huge pregnancy reveal to eagerly awaiting what Lady Gaga had in store for her Super Bowl halftime performance, there was so much anticipation that we could hardly contain ourselves. 2017 finally seems to be getting back on track, and not a moment too soon. Here’s what you missed over the weekend.
Mother Monster Brings her A-Game to the NFL
There was a lot of drama surrounding the NFL Committee's pick for this year’s Super Bowl LI halftime performance. Finally, after months of criticism and doubt, Lady Gaga had all of America’s attention on Sunday night to remind them who the HBIC of electro-pop music is, and she did it in only 13 minutes. From the roof of NRG Stadium in Houston, TX, Gaga began her performance — which was actually a peaceful protest — with a medley of classic patriotic favorites “God Bless America” and “This Land Is Your Land.” She ended that segment by speaking the last few lines of the Pledge of Allegiance: “One nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

To everyone’s amazement, Gaga then did her best impersonation of Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible by literally jumping from the roof down into the stadium and gracefully landing on the stage. There, she began fierce renditions of “Poker Face,” LGBT-acceptance anthem “Born This Way” and “Telephone.” Beyoncé didn’t magically appear for a surprise duet after all, but Gaga continued on with more fast-paced, killer choreography, delving into the OG hit “Just Dance.” The only new song she played was her recently released single “A Million Reasons,” during which she hugged an audience member presumed to be of Middle Eastern origin while singing the song’s final word “stay.”
In the most perfect way to close out her flawless, glittery production, Gaga and her dancers gave it their all for “Bad Romance.” Even the on-field audience brought it hard with their special accompanying choreography. The fireworks began to go off and Gaga’s performance was coming to an end, but not before she was carried over to a giant flight of stairs, ran to the top and ended the song with more than a mic drop — it was more of a mic throw. This freed up her hands to catch a sparkly football (with excellent form) and jump from the top of the stairs, disappearing into the crowd.
