Gaga announced that Joanne will be released October 21 during an interview with Zane Lowe on Beats Radio. The title is a tribute to the singer's late aunt, who died at the young age of 19 from lupus in 1974. One of Gaga's middle names is Joanne, and her father named his New York restaurant after his sister.

The album artwork will showcase Joanne's handwriting, as well as include personal items like her driver's license and photos.
