The indie-disco band is releasing 'Mythos' this fall.
Everyone's attended a few shows where the music serves more as background noise while the crowd stands off at a distance, engaged in polite conversations over drinks. But Body Language isn't here for that. During their performances, the side chatter regarding work, love, and life’s other complexities will be interrupted as the keyboards and drums begin with deliberate, attention-grabbing accuracy. When the vocals breeze in, the crowd feels an urge to relinquish its wallflower post to move towards the stage, and even worse — start dancing.
In preparation for the fall release of their upcoming EP, Mythos, the Brooklyn-based indie-disco band released the lead single "Just Let It" and met up with Myspace to let us all get to know them a little bit better.

Song or Band That Inspired You to Become A Musician: My dad swears I wanted to be like Janet Jackson when I was younger, but I don't remember. Lauryn Hill, Nina Simone, and Trish Keenan are some of my favorite female vocalists. I wouldn't say that they so much directly influenced me, but I was more inspired by their performances, vocals and unique sounds.
Favorite Song to Play off of Mythos: "Addicted." When we first practiced it after getting the kinks out, it was seamless and we all had the same euphoric feeling. That's when we knew it was going to be the banger out of all the new ones.
Best Performance You’ve Ever Had: We played back home in Brooklyn on June 21 at this incredible venue called the House of Yes in Bushwick. It was the start of summer, and also the first show we had played since October, so it was like we were coming out of the darkness. It was nice to have our hometown fans and friends come support us. Some of my co-workers from Acme brought a bunch of props over. During the encore, they brought out a life-sized green, acrylic horse which I rode on while singing the last song. It was pretty epic.
Best Performance You’ve Ever Seen: Beyonce's Formation Tour. When Animal Collective reunited with all four of the original musicians, it was really meaningful to me—I love them. A friend of mine, Chris Cohen, played at Baby's All Right. His voice made me cry. That doesn't really happen when I watch performances, but it was really moving to see him do his thing with no frills and just playing from the heart. It was super chill, and I loved every minute of it.
Guilty Pleasure: I'll occasionally wake up super early to watch old Looney Toons. I have this groundbreaking feeling and emotion for my childhood, especially as of late. I've been missing certain elements and fun things. It's something that I only do alone, because it's not something that anyone would be interesting in doing with me. Every so often I'll get McDonald's, love it, then regret it immediately after.

Song or Band That Inspired You to Become A Musician: When I was a teenager, there were a lot of experimental pop artists bursting on to the scene. Beck was one of them, and Odelay was such an influential record for me. It opened up my mind to what can be done with production and sampling. Fatboy Slim's music was the first time that I had heard really eccentric music cross over into the mainstream and capture big audiences.
Favorite Song to Play off of Mythos: Definitely "Addicted." For whatever reason, it resonates well when performed as a band. It flows, it's got soul, and it's fun.
Best Performance You’ve Ever Had: Last time we were in San Francisco, we played a sold out show at Bottom of The Hill. During a bunch of songs from Social Studies and Grammar, the crowd sang the songs with us so loudly. To feel your own songs being sung back at you was the most incredible feeling.
Best Performance You’ve Ever Seen: We opened for Janelle Monae at Hamilton College. Watching her and her band perform afterwards was so visually theatrical, down to how the band members interact with each other. It was unreal.
Guilty Pleasure: Fast food. McDonald's is one, but I also love Popeye's. It's those biscuits.

Song or Band That Inspired You to Become A Musician: Aphex Twin made me really want to start creating electronic music and programming synths and drum machines when I was 14. Jamie Lidell bridged the gap between all the soul music I was listening to, like Sam Cooke. He really inspired me to start singing. Jazz musicians Oscar Peterson and Bill Evans made me want to be a better keyboardist.
Favorite Song to Play off of Mythos: "Addicted" also. It's just a really fun track to play, and the groove is different. Grant plays the funkiest bass line, too.
Best Performance You’ve Ever Had: We played a show at the Electric Pickle Co. in Miami once that was the sweatiest show. My fingers were slipping on the keyboard so much that I could barely play. There was no air conditioning, people were smoking cigarettes indoors, and it was the middle of July. It was rowdy and was fun!
Best Performance You’ve Ever Seen: I just saw our main drummer, Ian Chang, do his first solo show and it was probably one of the raddest shows I've ever seen. It's a one-man show unlike anything else. Everyone was so focused on the music and it was hitting so hard. I was so proud of him.
Guilty Pleasure: Watching X-Files. It's so mindless, but fantastic.
