Find out where Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Aniston & more leading ladies got their laugh-worthy starts.
Everyone has to start somewhere, and this statement is especially true when it comes to some of our favorite actresses from the ‘90s.
Two of the women on this list have taken home Oscars, but that award probably seemed little more than a fantasy when they were playing a cyborg, or screaming at the sight of The Toxic Avenger.
You’ll also find one of your favorite Wild Things, a slice of American Pie, and two close Friends on this list, all of whom have come quite a long way from their B-movie beginnings.
Denise Richards – 'Tammy and the T-Rex'
This movie is almost too insane for words. Here’s the actual IMDb description: “An evil scientist implants the brain of Michael, a murdered high school student, into a Tyrannosaurus. (The T-Rex) escapes, wreaks vengeance on his high school tormentors and is reunited with his sweetheart Tammy.”
Tammy, as I’m sure you guessed, was played by Denise Richards. The late Paul Walker co-starred in Tammy and the T-Rex, which, sadly, does not have a plethora of sequels like The Fast and the Furious.
Shannon Elizabeth – 'Jack Frost'
Before she was a sexy exchange student in American Pie, Shannon Elizabeth played a small town teenager who was looking to get laid the same day her brother was brutally murdered by a serial killing snowman. If it doesn’t sound like there was very much in the way of mourning, don’t worry, the two would be reunited sooner, rather than later, as the above scene shows Elizabeth’s character didn’t exactly make it to the bedroom.
I watch this movie every Christmas Eve, because it just isn’t the holidays unless Shannon Elizabeth is getting boinked to death by a killer snowman.
Note: This is not to be confused with the Michael Keaton family movie Jack Frost, which was released one year later. Although if you’re a parent, and you do confuse them, your kids are going to learn some colorful language and probably have a much better time.
Angelina Jolie – 'Cyborg 2: Glass Shadow'
Watching this trailer, it’s like someone saw Robocop, The Terminator and Bladerunner, and thought, Let’s combine them, but with a minimal budget, and a hilariously bad script.
Perhaps this is where Angelina Jolie first acquired her action hero chops, which would eventually lead to her being the perfect Lara Croft, but I’m gonna go out on a limb and say she probably didn’t draw much from this role for her Oscar winning performance in Girl Interrupted.
Marisa Tomei – 'The Toxic Avenger'
The second Oscar winner on this list, Marisa Tomei took home a statuette in 1992 for her role in My Cousin Vinny, but eight years earlier she was a screaming girl in a towel in a scene in the legendary Troma film The Toxic Avenger. In the above clip you can see her scream-work at the 37 second mark.
Perhaps George Costanza wouldn’t have blown it with her if he’d just taken her to see Class of Nuke ‘Em High.
Oh, and don’t worry about Toxie’s violence, he’s avenging horrible deeds. He’s the good guy!
Jennifer Aniston – 'The Leprechaun'
Before there was Ross and Rachel, and throngs of women looking to imitate her hairstyle, Jennifer Aniston was busy being frightened by a vengeful leprechaun in this horror classic.
If you don’t watch at least one Leprechaun movie on St. Patrick’s Day, I really have to question who you are as a person.
Courteney Cox – 'Masters of the Universe'
Keeping with the Friends theme, after she did some “Dancing in the Dark” with Bruce Springsteen, Courteney Cox played an earth girl in the live action adaptation of Masters of the Universe.
Although this may not be considered a true B-movie, it didn’t feature He-Man’s alter ego, it didn’t have Battlecat and the movie version of Castle Grayskull had less rooms in it than my Castle Grayskull playset, so it certainly wasn’t A-list material.
