Bassist Nick Harmer claims everything is fine, despite Ben Gibbard's meltdown.

After Death Cab for Cutie walked off in the middle of "Soul Meets Body" at their show in Charleston, SC, last week (June 16), people quickly speculated everything from a diva moment to things being thrown at frontman Ben Gibbard.

But apparently it was more like the stars were not aligning for the band, and technical difficulties arose.

Bassist Nick Harmer tells Billboard. "It's kind of a non-story really. It got spun as we left the stage mid-set. It was the last 20 seconds of the last song and all of Ben's equipment failed at the exact kind of unrelated moment there was a giant fight in front of us."

He also pointed out that there was a ruckus in the crowd, and security guards were pulling people out. "We would've finished the song but we're all feeling a little skittish after Orlando and things were just—we weren't sure what was happening," he said. "Suddenly, there was this moment in the crowd where we don't see this kind of energy happen in front of us."

Between the tech issue and what went on in the crowd, Death Cab for Cutie were just spooked all around. "It's kind of scary, so we stop as a band thinking somebody's hurt or something's happening," Nick explained, "but that also just happened to coincide with the same other thing that was happening with Ben and all of his gear problems."

They did go back onstage to do an encore.
