Guns blaze in the teaser trailer for The Magnificent Seven. In fact, without its American Old West setting, The Magnificent Seven could be mistaken for an action thriller set in 2016. Director Antoine Fuqua even reunites with Training Day stars Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke. But this is also the latest proof of Akira Kurosawa's influence on modern cinema today. His 1954 film Seven Samurai was one of the first films to feature a team assembled to carry out a mission. Not only did that inform every war, crime and heist film since, but the original Magnificent Seven from 1960. This was, you guessed it, a Western remake of Seven Samurai.
