The next one is slated for 2018.
When Avatar released in 2009, it changed how much of the world thought about movies and broke just about every box office record. It also created an entirely new world that seemed primed for plenty of sequels.
Legendary director James Cameron is now cashing in on that mythical real estate, as he announced there will be four more films set on the world of Pandora. "We have decided to embark on a truly massive cinematic project making four epic films," Cameron says. "Each of which stands alone, but together forms a complete saga."
The first Avatar sequel is due for 2018, with the planned successors following in 2020, 2022, and 2023. Good thing the Na'vi have a long lifespan.
