Fetty Wap’s protégé reveals what “Love Is.”

It’s hard to disagree with the chorus of Brooklyn-born urban pop songstress Inas X’s debut single “Love Is” that goes “Nobody can tell you what love is.” But we have a pretty good idea what a good popstar is and Inas X certainly fits the description: she’s got the hooks, the moves and the team behind her as she’s now a member of RGF family, opening for Fetty Wap on his February/March tour. Here are 10 things you should know about the exciting new singer who's all about spreading positive messages via catchy music.

X Stands For Independence

“My stage name is a mark of my independence. My last name was changed when I was 16, and I feel like X means that I’m not going to be defined by any name. I just decided that I don’t care what anybody calls me. I am undefined. It’s for everyone who doesn’t want to be defined by a name or a word. You are X.”

She Took Her Time Before Signing With Fetty Wap’s Management

“I met Fetty at an event," she explains. "I told him I was an artist and would love to get him on a feature. I really wanted to collaborate with him. Then he introduced me to his manager, and he really liked my vibe and loved my music. Eventually I met the whole team and they wanted to sign me. At the time I was liking the whole independent thing and didn’t want to get signed. But after spending some time with them and seeing what they’re about I realized that they’re about everything that I’m about. They were a perfect match for me.“

But She’s Yet To Get That Fetty Feature

“You know, it’s very funny, but we still don’t have a song together! Which is so ironic. But hey, I got a lot more from it, so we’re good. But I’ll get him on something.”

She's Opening For Fetty On Tour

“There’s always crazy stories, every second something crazy happens when you’re on tour," she says. "It’s good and bad crazy. You gotta take both as it comes and take it all out on stage. There’s A LOT that goes on that people don’t know about.” But when she’s on stage, she’s all about having a good time. “I just like to entertain. I dance and I sing; I have back-up dancers. I just like to put on a show. I want to make the crowd smile and walk out of there like ‘I feel so good after that.”

Her Debut Single is Called “Love Is”

“My whole movement is basically about love and I want to spread love," she explains. "So it’s perfectly fitting that my debut single is called 'Love Is.' It’s all about love and acceptance and being one with yourself and with whoever you wanna love. I love love. I love to be loved and I love to love. I have a lot of love around me. I have to keep it around me or I’ll go crazy. The beautiful thing about it that it doesn’t just come in one form.”

Music Came to Her From the Sky

“I just remember looking at the sky one day. And the way the sunlight was coming in, it was just very magical. I felt like I just got touched by something bigger than me. I was singing a song that day to a couple of my friends and they were like ‘You can really sing.’ I told them I just sing for fun, but they insisted that I could really sing. And all of that really touched me. So I just knew. It was a spiritual moment.”

She’s Done Her Pop Research

“My favorite artist of all time is definitely Michael Jackson," she reveals. "He really embodied the artist that I want to be as a performer, as a philanthropist, as a humanitarian. I’ve pretty much studied everything about him. But I’m inspired by a lot of artists: from MJ to Janet, Madonna, Beyoncé, Rihanna. I love studying different artists and seeing what they’re all about.”

She’s a Natural-Born Dancer

“I was always that girl on the dancefloor since I was three years old, dancing with all the adults," she remembers. "As a kid I didn’t really have any formal training, but as I got older and realized that dancing is a really big part of the whole performance element that I like to embody. So I just got my ass in the dance class and was taking three to four dance classes a week the last few years. It’s been something that I worked on really hard. It comes naturally, but there’s a lot of technical stuff that you gotta learn, so I had to put on a lot of hours. As you get older it’s harder, but it was worth it. I definitely took a few classes that were really funny. I took a popping class, which is popping every part of your body and it was so funny. They were teaching us how to pop out our wrists and elbows. It was a lot to take in. But all of it goes together. Just like music.”

Her EP is Coming Out Soon

“The EP will be coming out in the next couple of months," she reveals. "I’m really anxious to drop it, but, you know, we gotta get a couple things right. I’m a very moody person. I have a lot of dimensions to me, so there’s gonna be a lot of different sides to me. I definitely want to try it all when it comes to genres, but first I’m doing urban pop. I write my own stuff and was working with Timbaland’s camp before, but now I’m with RGF Productions and working with all of their producers. I feel surrounded by greatness.”

Her Life Is “It’s My Life” By Bon Jovi

“What would my life be if it was a song? Oh, man! Depends on a day, depends on a day. Bon Jovi's “It’s My Life,” haha! It’s now or never, I’m not gonna live forever, but I’m gonna create something that will.”
