Wait, what?

Yesterday, Kanye West made headlines for a lyric that appears in his new album, The Life of Pablo. "I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / I made that bitch famous," he raps in the song "Famous." "Taylor" is Taylor Swift, as in the same person he interrupted at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, who he then apologized to six years later at that same awards show.

Fans of both artists had interpreted the lyric as a full-blown diss, though now, Kanye insists that it can't be—not when the lyric was apparently Taylor's idea.

"I did not diss Taylor Swift and I’ve never dissed her," he says on Twitter, adding, "First thing is I’m an artist and as an artist I will express how I feel with no censorship. 2nd thing I asked my wife for her blessings and she was cool with it. 3rd thing I called Taylor and had a hour long convo with her about the line and she thought it was funny and gave her blessings. 4th Bitch is an endearing term in hip hop like the word Nigga. 5th thing I’m not even gone take credit for the idea… it’s actually something Taylor came up with … She was having dinner with one of our friends who’s name I will keep out of this and she told him I can’t be mad at Kanye because he made me famous! "

Whether this story is true or not, those closest to Taylor Swift have apparently yet to hear it. The pop superstar's younger brother, Austin, posted a video where he throws his pair of Yeezy sneakers into the trash. ("Getting a head start on spring cleaning," he says.) Actress Jaime King said that she was "so sad and disappointed," while model Gigi Hadid, who was at Kanye's listening party at Madison Square Garden, says, "My attendance somewhere does not mean I agree with everything being said in the music playing there. My friends know of my loyalty."

Taylor has yet to respond to 'Ye's "Famous" shoutout herself. Meanwhile, Kanye dropped yet another new track—listen to "30 Hours" below.
