FØRD may only be 18 years old but these days producer have to start early — just look at Martin Garrix, who’s officially the No. 1 DJ in the world at the tender age of 20. FØRD comes from Byron Bay, Australia, which makes it easier to understand why his breakthrough single was called “The Pier” — the guy clearly loves the beach life. And with his career on the rise, we predict tons of beach parties coming his way.

FORD is my actual name. I put the slash in it to make it stand out.
How would you describe your music to a stranger at a house party?
Emotional electronic with a hip-hop edge
The best thing that happened to you in 2016 was…
I officially released my first track “Take You Down” ft. Grace Hughes. This was huge because it allowed me to finally share my music with the world (without private links!). To see it gain support from blog and radio was really great.

I have these pretty out there pants that have a really dope texture and white and black zig zag lines running down them.
Working during the day or working during the night?
I'm not too fussed honestly. It can really go either way, though I tend to get my best ideas at night.
Once I was in the studio with this other producer, and we’d been working on this track from about 11am. We decided to call it at around 1am as the track wasn’t really coming together. We chilled for a bit, I packed up my gear and was about to call an Uber but we decided to listen back to it one more time, and this new idea just hit us. We both gave each other the same look, opened up the session and kept going into the next morning until it was finished.

Mr. Robot.
