It's now illegal to use automated software to buy up lots of tickets to a concert or event.
In the waning days of Barack Obama's presidency, he has signed a bill to give you a better shot at attending your favorite show. Called the Better Online Ticket Sales (BOTS) Act of 2016, it outlaws the use of computer software to buy large amounts of tickets online.
These bots are notorious for grabbing hundreds or even thousands of tickets at a time, making it difficult to buy tickets to major concerts and events from the primary ticket seller. They're also responsible for the influx of secondary ticket markets, like StubHub, which resell tickets at inflated prices.
Under the new law, people will only be able to buy a small number of tickets using bots and they won't be able to sell tickets bought with bots. The federal government will also have the ability to file civil suits on behalf of people who weren't able to buy tickets because of scalpers using ticketing bots.
It's unclear how successful the law will be, but this certainly sounds like good news for concertgoers.
