Can you believe that the biggest albums from Amy Winehouse, Fergie and Nelly Furtado are now a decade old?
Pop music is one of the fastest-moving industries out there, and it slows down for no one. Even the biggest stars in the world sometimes have a difficult time keeping up with the pace of the business, and no matter how big a certain song may be or how many millions of copies an album may shift, before they (or the listener) realizes, it’s been years, and the next smash is well overdue.
This year is particularly important in pop music, as there are quite a few memorable tracks and CDs that are turning 10. Some of these may not come as too much of a surprise, while others will surely make you believe you’ve aged years in just a moment. These 10 albums defined 2006 — as well as the years that followed — because many of them stuck around for quite some time, spinning off hit after hit after hit.
There is no way you don’t remember these jams, and if you haven’t listened in a while, go give another spin to those CDs you have hidden away somewhere, as you’re bound to own at least one of these. Oh, and have a glass of wine or two while you do it, because despite the upbeat nature of the songs on these albums, the fact that they’re now a decade old is sure to give you all of the feelings.
Nelly Furtado - 'Loose'
After proclaiming herself “Like A Bird” and singing about the shit “On The Radio,” Nelly Furtado clearly wanted to ditch the acoustic guitars and try something totally different. She partnered up with super producer Timbaland, and the resulting music was pure magic. Loose turned out hit after hit, and for a while, it seemed as if that album would never stop. The record spun off number one hits “Promiscuous” and “Say It Right,” as well as the criminally underrated “Maneater.”
