'Why are we only looking at women through this particular lens?'
Earlier this year, Jennifer Aniston wrote a piece for the Huffington Post on not wanting children. “For the record, I am not pregnant. What I am is fed up,” the star wrote. Now, she’s elaborating on that sentiment.
“My marital status has been shamed; my divorce status was shamed; my lack of a mate had been shamed; my nipples have been shamed,” Aniston told Marie Claire in their December issue. “It’s like, Why are we only looking at women through this particular lens of picking us apart? Why are we listening to it? I just thought: I have worked too hard in this life and this career to be whittled down to a sad, childless human.”

In the Huffington Post piece, Aniston said she was sick of the rhetoric around motherhood. “I have grown tired of being part of this narrative. Yes, I may become a mother some day, and since I’m laying it all out there, if I ever do, I will be the first to let you know,” she wrote. “But I’m not in pursuit of motherhood because I feel incomplete in some way, as our celebrity news culture would lead us all to believe.”
In the Marie Claire interview, Aniston further proved her exemplary outlook on life and relationships by commenting on why husband Justin Theroux is the one for her. “All I know is that I feel completely seen, and adored, in no matter what state,” she said. “There’s no part of me that I don’t feel comfortable showing, exposing. And it brings forth the best part of myself, because I care about him so much. And he’s such a good person. It hurts me to think of anything hurting him.”
