John Goodman and Mary Elizabeth Winstead star in '10 Cloverfield Lane.'
Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams surprised moviegoers last night (January 14) who went to see Michael Bay's 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi in theaters. Prior to an East Coast screening came the debut trailer for 10 Cloverfield Lane, a spiritual sequel to his 2008 monster horror flick Cloverfield.
News broke in 2014 that J.J. was producing a film directed by Dan Trachtenberg and produced by Bad Robot, though no one would reveal its title or premise until last night's trailer reveal.
10 Cloverfield Lane stars John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and John Gallagher, Jr. As Mary Elizabeth explains to Collider, her character wakes up in a cellar and is being kept there by John's instructions. The trailer shows that this arrangement seems fine at first (the three of them play The Game of Life to pass the time), but then Mary Elizabeth's character loses her patience.
