Whatever that means.
Idris Elba may be Daniel Craig's favorite to play James Bond next, though the latest author of the spy series disagrees.
"Idris Elba is a terrific actor, but I can think of other black actors who would do it better," says Anthony Horowitz, who just wrote the 007 book Trigger Mortis, to The Daily Mail. "For me, Idris Elba is a bit too rough to play the part. It's not a colour issue. I think he is probably a bit too 'street' for Bond. Is it a question of being suave? Yes."
It's hard to say exactly what Anthony meant by "street," though one thing is clear — despite him saying this isn't "a colour issue," he wouldn't have ever called a white man "too 'street.'" Ditto for what Anthony said about this being "a question of being suave."
Idris has been rumored to play James Bond for the past four years, after he became a favorite on The Wire as Stringer Bell, the drug overlord who saw himself as a legitimate businessman. Sony's leaked emails from last year showed that the studio head, Amy Pascal, wanted Idris to play 007 as well.
Meanwhile, Anthony favors Hustle's Adrian Lester.
