The day-long festival featured A-Trak, Travi$ Scott and Action Bronson.
Saturday afternoon in Downtown LA, thousands of hip-hop and EDM fans gathered for the first stop of the fifth annual Fool’s Gold Day Off festival tour. With headliners like A-Trak, Travi$ Scott and Action Bronson, folks of all different hometowns and backgrounds gathered together for several hours of music, partying, and general craziness. By the end of the evening, the festival even spilled over into the neighboring parking structure, where dozens of fans found themselves complimentary seats.
Between special guests like Vic Mensa and Chief Keef, we took a moment to chat with nine of the most interesting folks we met there to ask them about the most foolish things they’ve ever done, while photographer Craig Cummins snapped their photos.
Louie
Occupation: I’m a student at UCR, but I’m working for some sales company.
Who are you here to see? Hoodboi is my boy. He’s a good friend of mine actually.
What’s the most foolish thing you’ve ever done? You know, just one too many beers, left a party at 2:30, got home at 6:30, no clue what happened in between. That’s happened.
Stephen
Hometown: Hawthorne, CA
Occupation: I own a pressure-washing business
What’s the most foolish thing you’ve ever done? I had sex with six girls at once. My ex-girlfriend and I broke up, she went out with her friends and I was home sleeping. Then I got the call and you know.
How’d you decide to grow out that beard? Honestly, I just got tired of shaving, and now this is about a year. I trimmed it twice because a bunch of girls told me it would grow faster if I clipped the ends, but it hasn’t grown faster. Now I’m mad at them.
John “Mamba” McDonald
Hometown: Originally from El Segundo, but now I live up in Big Bear.
Occupation: Professional snowboarder
What brings you to Fool’s Gold Day Off? My friends, actually. I don’t get to see my friends most of the time because I snowboard and they don’t, so they were like “Yo, there’s a concert out here” and I’d heard a couple things from A-Trak and a couple other people, but I don’t know. I just wanted to come to the venue. I’m open-minded, I’m down.
What’s the most foolish thing you’ve ever done? I’ve done a triple backflip. I’m the first black kid to ever do a triple backflip, and I broke my femur doing it.
Vache
Hometown: Born and raised in LA, the Valley.
Occupation: I work for the county, in the sheriff’s department.
What’s the most foolish thing you’ve ever done? I did get really really hammered last night, a little too hungover to be here. I hooked up with a girl who was not so pleasant on the eyes, but I wasn’t complaining when it was happening. It was fun.
Ryan Blount
Hometown: West Hills, California
What brings you to the concert? Just having fun with my friends. We love literally everybody, house music, EDM, rap, everything.
What’s the most foolish thing you’ve ever done? There’s just so much… My friends and I just got here today. We don’t have VIP tickets, but we literally just walked in and walked to the back. They let us in and we chilled for a bit, it was going pretty well until we went to the front stage and they kicked us out. So that’s the most foolish thing I’ve done today.
Rachel Lajato
Hometown: LA
Occupation: Student at Cal State Long Beach, graduating in December.
What’s the most foolish thing you’ve ever done? I got really high in high school, took a brownie and got in trouble for it. I had to go to drug counseling for it. I was just trying to get high, but whatever, it’s cool. I laugh about it all the time.
Lauren Anthony
Hometown: I’m actually from Ohio, but I just moved out here to LA.
Occupation: I’m a fashion designer, but I don’t like to call myself a designer, so I’m a fashion curator.
What brings you to Fool’s Gold Day Off? Oh man, I’m a huge Action Bronson fan, and Travis Scott. I’m trying to survive the rodeo one more time, I saw him in Chicago with Young Thug. I want to see A-Trak again also.
What’s the most foolish thing you’ve ever done? Aw man…Halloween 2009, I can’t even say what happened, but all I’ll say is that Vivid Entertainment needs to call me.
Michael Gutierez
Hometown: Southeast LA
Occupation: I’m a clerk at a hospital.
What’s the most foolish thing you’ve ever done? When I was under 18, I used to go to Rosarito Ensenada a lot. A lot of crazy stuff happened there. Drinks, women, that’s all I can say.
Riley
Hometown: LA
Who do you want to see here tonight? Travis Scott.
What’s the most foolish thing you’ve ever done? I hit my teammates with a tennis ball.
