That's one (or more) seasons than the showrunners said to expect.

Expect at least eight seasons of Game of Thronesat least, according to HBO. "Seven seasons and out was never part of the conversation. The question is how far beyond it will go," Michael Lombardo, president of programming, said Thursday at TCA, according to Deadline. Previously, showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss have said that GoT would not last longer than seven seasons. However, Lombardo insists that they are now "feeling like there's two more years after six."

Game of Thrones is currently filming its sixth season. Meanwhile, author George R. R. Martin is working on the sixth of seven books for his Song of Ice and Fire series. Martin himself has said that he is open to up to ten seasons of the hit HBO series. That means, though, that he'd have to write at a much faster pace. HBO has already used up much of what has been published, to where its shocking fifth season ventured further from the books than the ones before it.

Michael LItalien One thing I was hugely disappointed by was the lack of storyline featuring John Snows younger brother! He wasn't even in one single episode last season. So are the shows writers just going to act like he never existed? If he's out then just "kill" off his character, I mean it shouldn't be hard considering that he's only got 2 sisters and a little brother left. I don't see how an entire hero family gets whacked on the show. I would have never anticipated from the first episode that the hero family would just die one by one and in some pretty horrific ways. I'm just wondering if the writers can stay on a straight course, instead of bouncing all over the place.
