Weezy isn't leaving Cash Money yet, but he's celebrating a new acquisition.
Lil Wayne started the rumor mill Sunday night when he announced he had signed a contract with Jay Z at the KMEL Summer Jam in Oakland, Calif. "I just signed a deal with my motherfuckin' idol Jay Z," he said in a fan-captured video, leading many to believe he finally left Cash Money Records for Jay Z's label Roc Nation.
But according to his manager Cortez Bryant, it turns out Weezy was only referring to his recent decision to become a co-owner of Jay Z's music streaming service Tidal. Weezy signed on to own Tidal in early June and celebrated by releasing a new track called "Glory" from his upcoming record, the Free Weezy Album, exclusively through the service. This may or may not be a jab at Bryan "Birdman" Williams and Cash Money Records, which Weezy is currently suing for $51 million after the label failed to pay him for Tha Carter V.
Many songs from the rapper's January mixtape Sorry 4 the Wait 2 referenced Weezy's anger over the conflict, but the lawsuit is still underway. As of now, "Glory" still bears the mark of Young Money, indicating the track and the album attached to it will remain on the Cash Money label.
