Hunker down, Georgie—we need 'The Winds of Winter.'
Author George R.R. Martin has stated that he will officially not be writing any episodes for Season 6 of Game of Thrones. Martin has long been under the gun to finish up writing the beloved A Song of Ice and Fire series, which the also beloved HBO series is based on.
Right now, five out of seven novels in the series have been completed, with the last one being 2011's A Dance With Dragons. Book 7 promises to be the final installment in the series (...maybe?), titled A Dream of Spring.
As far as the HBO series goes, Martin has written episodes for Seasons 1 through 4, but skipped out on 5 and it looks like he'll be doing the same for 6 as well. “Maybe I’m being overly optimistic about how quickly I can finish,” the author told EW. “But I canceled two convention appearances, I’m turning down a lot more interviews—anything I can do to clear my decks and get this done.”
The Winds of Winter does not have a publication date—yeeeeet—but Martin says he'll let fans know when the book is finished via his official blog titled Not a Blog.
