Season 3 has run into some "complications."

FBI agent Dale Cooper might not be returning to the oddball town of Twin Peaks after all. It was announced last autumn that a revival of the cult fave was in the works.

Twin Peaks series creators David Lynch and Mark Frost set off a collective freakout when they promised nine new episodes of Twin Peaks, taking place 25 years after the end of season two in 1991. The show would air on Showtime some time in 2016.

But today it's being reported that Lynch revealed during a Q&A session in Brisbane, Australia that the revival has run into what he's calling "complications" and that the ultimate fate of the series was in jeopardy. When asked if the revival's return was confirmed, Lynch replied,  “I don't know. There are complications.” Ugh.

“I haven’t returned yet and we’re still working on the contract, but I love the world of Twin Peaks and I love those characters," Lycnh went on to explain. "And I think it will be very special to go back into that world.”

The script, however, is all finished and Kyle MacLachlan, Sheryl Lee and Dana Ashbrook were previously announced to star in the series. Showtime has not issued an official response.

Fingers crossed.
