Cheap Trick, Chicago, Deep Purple and Steve Miller also get recognized.

N.W.A will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. That makes the Compton, CA group the fifth rap act in history to be inducted, when the ceremony takes place at Barclays Center in Brooklyn on April 8.

"That means the group's mark is solidified," Ice Cube says to Rolling Stone. "We got some of the most creative, talented people in N.W.A that's ever compiled in one group. It's just exciting that the group as a whole gets recognized by the whole industry as Hall of Fame-worthy."

2015 was already a banner year for N.W.A thanks to biopic Straight Outta Compton, which earned $150 million in the domestic box office. N.W.A had been on the ballot three times before, and is the only act formed after 1970 to be honored next year, alongside Cheap Trick, Chicago, Deep Purple and Steve Miller.

Chic, Nine Inch Nails and Janet Jackson were also nominated, though to the disappointment of fans (see: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame subcommittee member Questlove), they didn't make the cut.
