The pop superstar settles the longtime franchise debate with a parody clip.
May the force be with Ariana Grande. In her new parody clip "Who Shot First," she weighs in on a debate that has plagued Star Wars fans: Who shot first, Alliance leader Han Solo or bounty hunter Greedo?
Even Ariana's mother Joan has agonized over this scene from the 1977 original. Director George Lucas edited it for the 1997 re-release so that Greedo clearly fires first, as he didn't want Han to seem cold-blooded. "When you're John Wayne, you don't shoot people [first]—you let them have the first shot," he said to The Washington Post.
In "Who Shot First," however, Ariana doesn't overthink her answer. "Han didn't shoot first because Greedo never fired off a shot in the first place," she says to two aliens sitting with her at a cantina booth. "Han shot, Greedo died, end of story." Her mother would be proud.
"Who Shot First" is directed by Chris Marrs Piliero, who also worked with Ariana on her Barbarella-themed "Break Free" video. Watch below.
