Bey and Chris make some vocal magic on this one.
After sharing Gwenyth Paltrow's feature on the upcoming Coldplay record, the UK outfit has just shared another new tune—this time featuring the the Queen B herself, Beyonce!
Without any opening instrumentals, Beyonce starts the song with various layers of her vocals that are placed on top of each other in such a way that we get a Bey orchestra instead. The piano then enters along with with Chris Martin's vocals. While it sounds like a simple pop song that professes one's care for another, there's an uplifting quality that'll turn anyone's around. Between the steady down beats and jangles battle each other, it's as dancey as they can get without going into the electro realm.
Guy Berryman explained the genesis of the tune to Anne Mac on her BBC 1 Radio show last night (November 30).
“It actually started off being quite a different vibe, this song," he said. "Chris was wanting to write a sort of party song. The words were ‘Drinks on me, drinks on me.’ And we said to him, ‘You can’t say that. You can’t get away with that.’ Then the whole story of the song changed and then he asked Beyoncé to sing on it, and she very kindly said she would. And it was amazing. She came in. She did her thing. She’s unbelievably professional. I think she was in and out in five minutes. And we are so blessed to sing on one of our songs."
