Spotify hopes that she will change her mind soon.
Chart experts predict that Adele's 25, will outsell *NSYNC's No Strings Attached, which moved over 2.4 million copies in 2000. But with the exception of Google Play, the LP, out today, isn't available on streaming services. Major digital services like Apple Music, Rhapsody and Spotify were notified less than 24 hours prior that 25 won't be made available for streaming, The New York Times reports.
Only two other artists have pulled a similar move: Taylor Swift only struck a deal with Apple Music to stream 1989 after she argued that streaming devalues music overall. Prior to that, Beyoncé didn't make her 2013 self-titled album available until a year after its release. These full-lengths still became two of the biggest selling releases over the past few years.
Adele was personally involved in this decision to make 25 available at major retailers but not streaming services, not even the subscription-based ones like Tidal. If you search for the album on Spotify, you'll see this message: "The artist or their representatives have decided not to release this album on Spotify just yet. We're working on it, and hope we can change their minds soon."
