Halloween came early Thursday night, when LA's Mayan Theater hosted the bi-annual Lucha VaVOOM.
The show won’t start until the audience takes the Lucha vow. It’s a rule. In unison, the crowd excitedly chants its oath: “I solemnly swear, that I will not believe, what I am about to see tonight!” The host screams “LUCHA!” The mob answers “VAVOOM!”
LUCHA! VAVOOM! LUCHA! VAVOOM! The crowd and their announcer go back and forth. And then… like evil clockwork, it’s officially time for the mayhem to begin.
Mexican masked wrestling meets sexy striptease sprinkled with raunchy jokes; Lucha VaVOOM is thee strangest, but best, way to start your Halloween weekend. Hosted at the Mayan Theatre twice yearly, (Halloween and Valentine’s weeks) the event features acts from around the world including Marawa The Amazing who spins an unwarranted amount of hula hoops around her elastic waist, and other various superstars coming out of the burlesque and wrestling worlds.
This year’s show, “Mexican Horror Story,” saw the return of Dirty Sanchez and the Loco Chickens, as well as aerial pole superstar Leigh Acosta who slid and slipped all around her rod, and of course, Miss Rita and her “Li’l Homies” with the finest dance routine (grinding sesh) of the night.
It’s foul, vulgar, and most definitely sinful, and you, you wicked little thing, thoroughly enjoyed every last moment.
There’s definitely going to be poison in your candy bars this year. But until trick or treatin’ time… Happy Halloween!
