Arícia Mess began in 1985 as a backing vocalist for artists like Cláudio Zoli, Marina, Kid Abelha, and Fernanda Abreu.
Her first solo show was Dança Maluca tropical funk and her first album, Cabeça Coração, was released by the Japanese label Nippon Crown in March 2000. Later it was released in Brazil by the indie label Orbita Music. The album tries to recover folkloric themes like the jongo "Cangoma," recorded by Clementina de Jesus in 1966, but under heavy electronics. Mess put on shows to promote the album in Salvador (1,000 people) and Rio de Janeiro. ~ Alvaro Neder
