Alba&Leo is an acoustic jazz duo from Rijeka, Croatia, composed of a singer Alba Nacinovich and guitarist Leo Škec.
Alba Nacinovich was born in Rijeka in 1986 and came close to music very early, singing at various children's song festivals such as the international Zecchino d'Oro where she won the "Zecchino d'Argento" in 1993.
In 2003 she won the 1st prize at the Rijeka's Gitarijada rock festival with the band Matriz. At present she's attending the second degree Jazz Course at the "Giuseppe Tartini" Conservatory in Trieste, Italy, where she has studied under the guide of professors Klaus Gesing, Glauco Venier, Giovanni Maier, Stefano Bellon, Carla Marcotulli and Marcello Tonolo. She received an Erasmus Scholarship and studied at the Conservatory of Escola Superior de Música e das Artes e to Espectáculo in Porto (Portugal) where she studied with professors Michael Lauren, Sofia Ribeiro and Paulo Perfeito. Over the last few years she attended masterclasses and workshops with (among others): Norma Winstone, Stefano Bollani, Diana Torto, Ohad Talmore. She performed at the Villa Celimontana Jazz Festival, Veneto Jazz and Jazz&Wine of Peace festivals and figures on Elvis Stanić, Jan Sturiale, Damir Halilić Hal and Crooks & Straights' records.
Leo Škec was born in Rijeka in 1985 and began playing the guitar at the age of 16. In 2003, after taking some basic guitar lessons, he was introduced to the Lovran Wind Orchestra (Puhački Orkestar Lovran) by his teacher Zoran Dumičić – Duma. As a member of P.O.L. and of the Josip Pepi Forembacher's Big Band, Leo played with some of the most popular artists of the Croatian pop and jazz scene, such as Gibonni, Oliver Dragojević, Severina, Elvis Stanić, Marko Tolja. From 2009 he is leading his own jazz groups called Tvrdokorne Mrlje and Salty Tails with whom he played at Liburnia Jazz, Jazz Time, MareziJazz and other local festivals. Lately he is collaborating and performing with Elvis Stanić Group.
Alba and Leo performed in various ensembles ranging from duo to big band and symphonic orchestra, making their appearance in Italy, Germany, Austria, France, Portugal, Greece, Hungary, Slovenia, Serbia and Croatia.
They began playing together in 2005 in the jazz/blues band Love Runners and have been performing as the duo Alba&Leo since 2007. The repertoire of the duo consists of original arrangements of songs from various genres (pop, rock, latin, jazz) and languages (English, Croatian, Italian, Portuguese and French). Lately, using live loops for the guitar, as well as for the voice, they enrich and empower the sound and in the same create a new space for research and improvisation. Alba and Leo are the winners of the first prize in the categories of vocal, instrumental and choral performances at the competition for arts and culture Istria Nobilissima 2011.
