Aaken is the stage name of French-born Vietnamese Tôn-Thât An.
His field of action spans music for contemporary dance, theatre plays, films, as well as orchestral and instrumental works.

He has composed extensively for Japanese choreographer Jo Kanamori and his company Noism: their first collaboration 'NINA – materialise sacrifice' (2005) toured around the world, in New York, Chicago, Sao Paolo, Paris, Santiago, Moscow, Tokyo, Seoul and Taipei, 'PLAY 2 PLAY' was awarded best dance work in Japan in 2007, while 'Les Contes d’Hoffmann' (The Tales of Hoffmann) (2010) blended dance, video, opera and bunraku puppet theatre. Aaken has also collaborated with Régine Chopinot and Jean Paul Gaultier on 'W.h.a.' (2003) and with Taiwanese dance wunderkind Huang Yi on 'Symphony Project' (2010), 'Double Yellow Line' (2012) and 'Shadows of Sound' (2013) which was premiered at the Ailey CityGroup Theater in New York, 'Floating Domain' (2014) which was created for CloudGate2, and the new media project 'Special Order ' (2014).

Also a singer-songwriter, he has made 2 studio albums: 'Circlesong' (2005) and 'Hyperbody' (2010) and is now completing 'Fukaeri', an album in partnership with Portuguese songstress Bévinda and new songs for his upcoming album 'We were (t)here'.

His work as a composer recently took him to Berlin for 'The Legend of Thanh Giong', a piece commissioned by the Berlin Symphony Orchestra, which was performed at the Berlin Philharmonie Hall in February 2013. He was the first Vietnamese composer to have his work performed in that prestigious venue!

He has also written chamber music: 'And the Mountain said' (2014) and 'Spring X [I hear and I forget] (2015) which were premiered in Taiwan and Hong Kong, respectively.

Now based in Taipei, he continues to develop his activities in various creative fields, including photography, writing and directing. His last project was '[FEEL] IN/OUT' (2015), an art project in Saigon, Vietnam, which encompassed performing arts, music, dance, video installation, films and photography.
