Gonçalo Larsen (born 11 January 1986) is a guitarist,keyboardist and song writer.
He was born in Cascais, Portugal, andis currently a member of the portuguese band The Girl in The Black Bikini, alongside the TV hostess CarolinaTorres/vocals, Ricardo Pinto/guitar (Panda Pompoir), JF Sales/bass (R.A.M.P)and Daniel Cardoso/drums (Anathema).He was also lead singer and lead guitarist of The Hypers. Larsen began playing guitar atthe age of 12, and founded his first band TheHypers when he was 18, and with whom he released three EP’s. They were influenced by classic hard rock and heavy metal bands from 1970’s and 1980’s.The band was invited as opening act for some important portuguese rock bandssuch as Peste e Sida, and international bands such as Messer Chups, and played in some medium sized festivals in Portugal.
In 2010 they won Corroios’s Modern Music Festival and Setubal’s 7Rock Festival in the same night. His experiences in The Hypers helped him to get some recognition within the portuguese music scene. In 2013 the band split, and a few months later he was invited to join a new rock band called The Girl in the Black Bikini, where he plays guitar and keyboards. In the first year they launched the single Trash,produced by their drummer Daniel Cardoso, which led them to some TV appearences, and some portuguese festivals. They are currently writingfor their first album, which is expected to be released this year.
Larsen is also starting a newproject with some other experienced musicians: the drummer Rui Berton (BizarraLocomotiva), the guitarist Edgar Leito (The Vicious Five), Alexandre Mendes(Twenty Inch Burial) and Vasco Duarte (Uruguai), with a Gothic / Alternativebased sonority.
Besides his work as musician,he has also worked as road manager, in partnership with Void Agency, for bands such Ena Pá 2000, Irmãos Catita, some solo artists such as Fernando Alvim, Marcia, and even his own band The Girl in the Black Bikini. Working for Void Creations, he hasbeen part of the production of artistic events throughout the country.
Larsen also provides guitarclasses for beginners, as part of his professional activty.
